How do you prevent your customers from opening disputes against you on their PayPal account to protect your account from permanent limitations?

Do you use PayPal to accept payments on your WordPress/WooCommerce website but you suffer because customers can easily open a dispute on their PayPal account without prior notice?

Opening a dispute against a seller directly impacts the quality of your Merchant account and may result in restrictions/limitations or even permanent suspensions. Permanent suspension may result in the loss of all your funds or capital, especially if you are a beginner in the field of eCommerce.

What percentage of disputes are allowed to avoid suspension of my account?

The dispute percentage allowed at PayPal is 1.5%. This means sellers cannot have more than 1.5% of their open transactions in dispute in any 12-month period. If this threshold is exceeded, PayPal may take action, such as suspending the seller’s account or limiting their activities.

This percentage is calculated based on the seller’s total transaction amount. For example, if a seller has completed €100,000 of transactions in a 12-month period, they cannot have more than €1,500 of open transactions in dispute.

How can I protect my account from suspension?

If you want to maintain your business for a long time and not be hit by a permanent limitation, you must therefore minimize the rate of open cases/disputes as much as possible. To do this, you must deactivate the PayPal button on the checkout page of your website and keep only the option of payment by credit and debit card so that the customer can no longer easily and quickly open disputes on their PayPal account as in the case if he pays through their PayPal account.
